Frequently Asked Questions
What does custom framing cost? Can I get a quote by Phone or E-mail?
Custom framing is like custom ordering anything, the prices vary a great deal depending on your choice of materials. The best way to get an accurate price is to bring your piece into the shop. We can explain your options and help you create a design that you like. At this point we can give you an informed quote. If you are not ready to move forward after that, we can save all the details in our system, under your name, for future reference.
How long does it take?
Our turn-around time is generally 2-3 weeks depending on the materials needed. We can accommodate rush orders, but your choices are more limited. Shadowboxes, more complicated orders, and hand-made finished corner frames take longer.
Do you send my art out?
No, we do all the framing on the premises except for our Lamamount service.
Do you frame needle work?
Yes. We frame cross stitch, embroidery, needlepoint, crewel, tatting, doilies, and more.
How Big is Too Big?
Our general rule of thumb is “If it fits through the door, we can frame it.” We regularly stretch and frame paintings on canvas, that are outside of the “standard” size, and have gone as big as 6’ x 8’ in the last few years.
For prints and items that will include matting, the larger your piece, the more limited your options become. “Standard size” is anything 32” x 40” or smaller. Oversize materials, 40” x 60”, are available but options are limited. Beyond that we just need to see your item to be able to give suggestions on the best options.
Can you clean or fix my damaged painting or print?
We work with a conservator who can repair and clean artwork. His services are separate from our framing services, and he will advise you on cost. If you are interested in conservation services, give us a call and we can walk you through the next steps.
I have an old frame I’d like to match. Can you guys help with that?
Most of the time we can either match exactly or suggest something very close to your original. If you had us frame your original piece within the last 5 years, we should have all the details saved in our system, which will make things a lot easier. If we did not work on your original piece, or it is 5+ years old, we can still find the pieces if they are still being manufactured or suggest similar options.
Keep in mind, that moulding, and matting styles are regularly being introduced and discontinued. The best option is always to bring the piece you are trying to match into us. This will give us the best starting point with colors and finishes.
Can you appraise artwork I own?
No. We do not do appraisals.
Do you buy or consign old paintings or framed prints?
No. We suggest you try a consignment shop or auction house.
Can I sell my art in your shop?
